MS Word Accessibility Guidelines
When authoring documents in MS Word 2007 or 2010, there are a number of simple techniques that can help maximize the accessibility and usability of these documents, including the following:
Adding alternative text in MS Word
People with a visual impairment need an alternative way of accessing the information conveyed by images and other non-textual objects (e.g., charts).

Adding Structure to Word Documents
Proper use of built-in Word styles, such as heading levels, helps ensure that the document is properly structured. This makes the document easier to navigate by people with a visual impairment using assistive technology devices. Learn more about using styles in MS Word.
